The NCAAB Final Four Nobody Predicted

Final Four ball

Its that time of year, when all the college basketball fans are glued to the television to see who will prevail as the 2019 NCAAB Champions.

Last weekend we saw many of the sportsbooks favorite teams fail to make it to the final four. Duke, North Carolina, Gonzaga, and several other teams who all had favorable odds, lost on their way to the final four. What started with 68 teams has now been narrowed down to just 4 teams: Virginia (+150), Auburn (+600), Texas Tech (+425), and Michigan State(+185).

Virginia

The University of Virginia Cavaliers are back in the final four for the first time since 1984. Despite many good teams over the years, they have never won a College Basketball National Championship. This year might be their year. Virginia has favorable odds to win the championship because of their defense. The Virginia defense has allowed the fewest points in the nation averaging just under 55.5 points allowed per game. Pair that defense with a slow offense that makes every possession count and you have the best odds of winning the tournament.

Auburn

Auburn is that one team that no one predicted would be in the final four. They are currently the lowest seeded school still in the tournament and they have knocked out some big programs on their way to the Final Four. I think it is safe to say that Auburn is the team that messed up everyone’s bracket when they took out North Carolina (1), Kentucky (2), and Kansas (4). The Tigers finished fourth in the SEC but got hot at the end of the year. This will be Auburn’s first ever appearance in the Final Four.

Texas Tech

Texas Tech’s season has been up and down, but now that the school has qualified for their first-ever appearance in the Final Four, it is sure to end on the up. Texas Tech surprised many basketball fans and USA online sportsbooks when they rolled over Gonzaga to advance to the Final Four. The Red Raiders coach cited his team’s resilience and their ability to work together to their success.

Michigan State

Michigan State has been considered a good basketball team ever since they won their first national title in 1979. Their most recent national title came in 2000 under their current head coach. Since then it hasn’t been smooth sailing, but the team has managed to go deep into the tournament several times since their last championship run. Michigan State knocked off the number 1 seed Duke in their last game and are looking to carry that momentum into the Final Four.
