Coaches get ready for battle

After being favored by double-digits in every game this season, the top-ranked Crimson Tide seem to have finally met their match according to most College football sportsbooks.

Currently, Alabama is a 6-point favorite over the Clemson Tigers for tonight’s matchup that will crown the 2019 College Football Playoff National Champion.

Alabama opened as a 6.5-point favorite against Clemson following the results of the CFP semifinal games, which was the first time all see the nation’s top-ranked team has been only a single-digit favorite.

The narrowest the point spread had ever gotten for Alabama was the 12-point spread against the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC Championship, and when they were given a 14-point advantage against the Oklahoma Sooners in the semifinal.

Both Georgia and Oklahoma were arguably the toughest opponents for Alabama up until this point all season. Alabama had to come back to win 35-28 against Georgia and then managed to hold off a second-half rally by the Sooners, winning by a score of 45-34.

The Crimson Tide failed to cover in both games.

In fact, even though both teams come into the matchup with a perfect 14-0 overall record, both Alabama and Clemson only manage an 8-6 record against the spread over the course of the 2018 season.

Tonight’s title game will be the fourth matchup in the College Football Playoff featuring both Alabama and Clemson in the past four seasons and will be the third time in the past four years that the two teams have met in the national championship (last season’s matchup was in the semifinal).

Alabama won the 2016 CFP National Championship 45-40 over Clemson but did not cover as 6.5-point favorites.

In 2017, Clemson won 35-31 on the last play of the game to not only win the championship game but also cover as 6.5-point underdogs again.

Last season, the two teams met in the semifinal game and Alabama, who was a 3.5-point favorite, won easily 24-6 over the Tigers.

But we won’t have to wait long to see who wins and who covers tonight’s 6-point spread. Kickoff for the 2019 CFP National Championship is set for 8 p.m. ET and can be watched on ESPN.
